Local Amenities

A mini market is located approximately 600m down the hill, offering all daily essentials. Larger supermarkets can be found on the main road towards Argostoli, about a 20-minute drive away.
All supermarkets are open daily from early morning until late evening.

The nearest post office is in Argostoli (12km away), located on Lithostroto Street. Look for the bright yellow “ΕΛΤΑ” signs of the Greek postal service.
Opening hours: Monday to Friday, 07:30–14:00. Stamps are also sold in most tourist shops and kiosks.

The nearest banks and ATMs are in Argostoli. They operate Monday to Thursday from 08:00–14:00 and on Friday until 13:30.
Remember to bring your passport when exchanging money or conducting transactions at the bank.

Pharmacies are easily recognized by a green cross sign. Most are located along the seafront road in Argostoli.
Opening hours: Monday–Friday 09:00–14:00 and 17:00–21:00 (Tuesday, Thursday, Friday), Saturday 08:30–13:30.
When closed, the phone number of the duty pharmacy or doctor is displayed on the door.

The nearest petrol station is located in Vlahata village. Opening hours: 08:00–22:30 daily (except public holidays). Payment can be made by cash or card.

The nearest Catholic Church is also in Argostoli, on Lithostroto Street.
Mass is held on Saturdays at 7pm and on Sundays at 10am and 7pm.

Internet & Communication

There are several internet cafés in Argostoli and in the nearby village of Lourdas, with an average cost of €3–4 per hour.

Public telephones usually operate with phone cards, available at kiosks, post offices, and local shops.
For international calls to the UK, prefix your number with 0044 and omit the first zero.

Smoking is prohibited inside all public buildings, including restaurants, bars, and shops. Fines apply for violations.

English newspapers can be found in mini-markets and in Argostoli on Lithostroto Street, where a bookstore sells English books, magazines, and newspapers.

Restaurants & Bars

The nearest tavern, Trapezaki restaurant – bar is about 600m away down the hill. More options can be found along the road towards the crossroads, as well as an excellent restaurant near Trapezaki Beach.

Neighbouring Lourdas, just a 10-minute drive away, offers a variety of restaurants and tavernas serving everything from traditional Greek to international cuisine.
Argostoli also features a wide selection of dining options, including Greek tavernas, grill houses, and even a Asian restaurant.

Beaches

The nearest beach is Trapezaki Beach — a large, sheltered sandy bay ideal for swimming.
Nearby Lourdas Beach features a long stretch of sand and shingle, with watersports available during the high season and plenty of sunbeds and umbrellas for rent.
Further south, Mounda Bay is also worth a visit — an unspoiled sandy coastline perfect for families and children.

Public Holidays

  • 1st January – New Year’s Day & Feast of Agios Vassilis. Families cut the Vasilopita cake, and whoever finds the hidden coin is said to have good luck for the year.
  • 6th January – Epiphany, celebrated with the Blessing of the Waters. A cross is thrown into the sea, lakes, or rivers and retrieved by swimmers.
  • Clean Monday – 40 days before Easter. Marks the start of Lent; families fly kites and enjoy outdoor picnics.
  • 25th March – Greek Independence Day, with parades and celebrations nationwide.
  • Good Friday – Processions of the Epitaph take place across towns and villages.
  • Easter Sunday – The most important religious holiday in Greece, with roasted lamb, red eggs, and family gatherings.
  • Easter Monday – Public holiday following Easter Sunday.
